Topologist’s fascination with rope goes well back into his childhood, to his days as a scout and wilderness canoeist, and has been a centerpiece of his personal exploration of kink from the beginning. Perhaps his only earlier passion, a love for the exploration of light and shadow led to varied experiences in photography, theatre lighting, film, and starting around 2004, fetish photography. This naturally fueled an exploration of the more artistic side of bondage, and Topologist’s entrance into the public Boston rope scene in 2007.
Topologist began teaching at Bound in Boston in 2009, and has taught and performed at a variety of venues around the country since. He is the inventor of a number of ties and techniques, including the Somerville Bowline, Reverse Somerville Bowline, Slipped Overhand Cuff, and Chest-Loading Box Tie.
